2300 was originally purchased for the SVR in February 1978 by a member of the [[L.M.S. & B.R. Coach Department Sales Coach | LMS & BR Coach Fund]]. It arrived on the SVR as an empty shell from Bass Charrington in Plymouth, where it had been used by the barrel-making department. In a six-year restoration it was fitted out with an interior salvaged from coach 13045 which was scrapped. After a period of use it was repainted in the then new Kidderminster paint-shop during 1997. The LMS & BR Coach Fund donated all its vehicles to [[Severn Valley Railway Charitable Trust Ltd | The SVR Charitable Trust]] in 2007, following which 2300 received a further repaint in 2008.
2300 is regularly used in the LMS Maroon set (Sel Set L).
