additional info and history
:::::Other than the above, internet searches show him the co-author of a geography text book in Sierra Leone, a scholarship in his name at Cambridge and several eminent people with the same surname in Brecon, presumably descendants or relatives. I was hoping for an obituary but it was pre-internet days. If someone has contacts at Didcot or can find out more, it's an open edit Wiki for anyone that can add info.--Patrick Hearn (talk) 17:41, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
:::::London Gazette 5 October 1951 "Wilts. R. The undermentioned officers relinquish their commns., 6th Oct. 1951, and are granted hon. ranks as shown: Lt. (War Subs. Capt.) D. R. G. GWYNNE-JONES (200351)—Maj.--Patrick Hearn (talk) 17:47, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
:::::He also co-authored "Short Notes on the Parish Church of St. Peter, Coughton, Warwickshire" compiled by D. R. G. Gwynne-Jones, A. F. Mason and W. A. Partridge. Also, "26 March 1966, 2-6-2T No 6106 worked light from Southall to Taplow “for storage pending preservation”. 6106 had been purchased for £1,500 at the beginning of 1966 by Great Western Society member D R Gwynne-Jones."--Patrick Hearn (talk) 11:47, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

I've tried several times on different days to add LMS 31281 Gangwayed Full Brake to the scrapped vehicles (from SVR News 218), but I get repeated error messages. Anyone else fancy a go?--Patrick Hearn (talk) 19:22, 24 June 2022 (UTC)
:I've again tried to update this page but the forum is having another of its repeated 'unexpected disconnection' spats when I did. Will try again at some point unless someone beats me to it. Text follows--Patrick Hearn (talk) 18:30, 17 September 2022 (UTC)

::Don't know why this page seems particularly troublesome at times, but I copied it across and it saved first time. --Robin (talk) 20:39, 17 September 2022 (UTC)

A double check please for scrapped carriages. We have:
GWR 2214 / DW150393.
GWR 5786 also erroneously shown as DW150393 - an image says it’s DW150338. A search under the RCTS says broken up c1994. The commentary on this page says: Seen at Willesden in mid-1993.[19] Broken up circa 1999,[5] bogies and parts saved[20]. I suspect the RCTS is correct, the 1993 relates to 5786 and the 1999 commentary relates to 2214 - I can’t get behind the paywall of departmentals.com to confirm though - but I think Robin has?--Patrick Hearn (talk) 00:25, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
: Good spot. Having checked what I can, 2214 is confirmed as becoming DW150393 (RCE Staff and Dormitory Coach) circa 11/96 per Longworth (2018) pp.78, 170. The scrapping date of 11 June 1999 is from SVR News 130. 5786 is confirmed as becoming DW150338 (Sleeping Mess and Tool Coach) circa 03/62 by Longworth (2018) pp.73, 170. 5786 is mentioned in the 1998 Stock Book under 'Vehicles scrapped on the SVR', the scrapping location being Kidderminster and the date presumably before publication in June 1998. I can't find any mention of it being acquired or indeed scrapped in SVR News, it was probably bought for spares and scrapped shortly after arrival. --Robin (talk) 15:36, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
