It was one of the very last steam locomotives to be used by BR, ending its working life at Lostock Hall Shed, Preston, from where it worked the return portion of the 'Fifteen Guinea Special', the last steam passenger service run by British Rail. 

The locomotive was resident from 1970, acquired by [[Severn Valley Railway (Holdings) PLC|SVR(H)]] in 1975 and left the railway when sold in August 2023.
