Steam Locomotives

5164 is a GWR Collett 5101 class 2-6-2T 'Large Prairie'. These medium-sized tank engines were used all over the GWR network for suburban and local passenger and local freight services. British Railways rated the class 4MT.

5164 in service

5164 was built at the GWR Swindon Works and entered service at Tyseley in November 1930.[1] Post-War the locomotive was still at Tyseley, moving to Wellington and Newton Abbot in the mid-1950s. BR service ended at Pontypool Road in April 1963.[2]

5164 in preservation

5164 arrived from Barry Scrapyard on 6 January 1973. Restoration was completed in 1979 when the locomotive entered service for the first time.

5164 last saw service in January 2014. While awaiting its next overhaul, the locomotive has been lent to Barrow Hill Roundhouse, where it may be seen on display.

The locomotive is owned by the The 5164 Preservation Group.
