78019 was resident on the SVR between 1973 and 1998, and was a Gala visitor in spring 2010.

The BR Standard 2MT 2-6-0 was essentially a development of the LMS 2-6-0 ‘Mickey Mouse’, of which the SVR’s 46443 is an example. 78019 was built at BR’s Darlington Works and entered service in 1954 at Kirkby Stephen in Cumbria. The locomotive was eventually with drawn from service in November 1966.

SVR member Mr Charles Newton had already bought 46521 before purchasing 78019 as a longer term restoration project. 78019 arrived by road from Barry Scrapyard on 10 March 1973.

Some restoration work took place during the following years, but was still not complete when in 1998 a group from the Great Central Railway at Loughborough offered to complete the restoration of the locomotive on agreement that it then remained at the GCR for an undisclosed period of time. This move was completed and became permanent.

78019 returned to the SVR as a gala visitor in spring 2010.
