After BR service it was purchased by 2012 by Northumbria Rail for use at the Waverley Route's site at Whitrope Summit. However, by arrangement it went to Mid-Norfolk Railway (MNR) with 9538 instead going to Whitrope. It is one of a of a rake of Mark 2 vehicles operated by Eastern Rail Services (ERS) and based on the MNR, where it is used on services. The rake is also from time-to-time hired to other railways, in particular the Weardale Railway for their Polar Express trains.<ref>[http://www.easternrailservices.co.uk/ Eastern Rail Services]</ref><ref>[http://www.cs.vintagecarriagestrust.org/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=6279 9497 on vintagecarriagestrust.org]</ref>
