BR Rail Carrier 996730

Bogie Bolster / Rail Carrier DB 996730 is one of 95 built for BR by Cravens of Sheffield in 1950 to the former GWR ‘Gane A’ design, of which the SVR’s 60841 is an example. The 60ft length allowed standard length rails to be carried. It was never vacuum-fitted, which led to an early retirement.

It arrived on the SVR in 1990, and is used by the PW department for carrying rails and sleepers.
