The normally reliable Marshall book doesn't add anything on this occasion, and I haven't found any references to how it was controlled.--Robin (talk) 16:06, 24 November 2015 (UTC)

: From discussions on Facebook, it appears that signalling did exist at least at an early stage - the 1882/1883 OS maps indicate an unusual plethora of signal posts ("SP"). Graham has been contacted about some other maps, and the station master at Eardington should also hopefully chip in too. A quick perusal of the Signalling Record Society website didn't show up anything either.

:The forges seem to have been a major feature at the time like you say, and the 1890 date might explain the lack of signalling in later editions of the OS map - I think most of the written information you've found was already on the Eardington page, hence the query! --Danny252 (talk) 16:31, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
