Summary

Description
English: Shrewsbury Station; south end, with train arriving from Aberystwyth.
View southward on this great ex-GW & LNW Joint Station. To the left the main line to Wellington (thence Stafford), Wolverhampton, Birmingham etc.; to the right is the Welsh Marches Joint line from Hereford etc., which has been joined about a mile beyond at Sutton Bridge Junction by the Joint line from Welshpool etc. and the GW (Severn Valley) line from Bewdley via Bridgnorth. The massive signalbox in the background is Severn Bridge Junction, beyond which is the Shewsbury Curve connecting the Birmingham with the other routes south and west. The 07.35 stopping train from Aberystwyth, with Collett '2251' 0-6-0 No. 3204 (built 10/46), is arriving after taking three hours for the 80 miles via Machynlleth and Welshpool. (The chap with the broom seems to be about to dispose of my travelling-bag - but in those days one was allowed to 'leave objects unattended').
