Summary
Dowles Bridge in 1864. This appears to be a colourised and enhanced version of a black & white photograph which may be seen in Beddoes & Smith (1995) p. 28. and which is credited to the National Railway Museum. The locomotive is No 1.A, later renumbered 17, and is hauling an inspection train shortly before the opening of the line in August 1864. One of the figures on the left of the photograph is believed to be William Clarke, the Tenbury & Bewdley Railway Engineer who designed the bridge, and the other is believed to be William Norris who was instrumental in setting up the Tenbury Railway. The fisherman in the river does not appear in the original photograph.
