Talk:Ironbridge and Broseley

Do we go with "Ironbridge" or "Ironbridge and Broseley" (with a redirect from the other)? I'd lean towards the latter, given that it was the name used by the railway. Of course, that opens up a similar question about "Stourport" or "Stourport-on-Severn", which is slightly more complicated given that the name did change.

Also, I think locations from Coalport to Shrewsbury should use North/South of the river, rather than East/West - as a local resident, saying that Ironbridge is "East" of the river sounds totally ridiculous! --Danny252 (talk) 12:09, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

As I've said before, geography is not my strong point! Interestingly Marshall states that the station opened as Ironbridge and Broseley, but on 9 November 1895 it was changed to Iron Bridge and Broseley on the recommendation of the General Manager. As Marshall says, "the reason is obscure" given the name of the town. Maybe geography wasn't the GM's strong point either. However photographs such as Sellick's do seem to show a gap in the name! Ignoring that, on balance yes we probably should redirect it to an Ironbridge and Broseley page, but for simplicity I'd be happy to leave the maps abbreviated to Ironbridge, as that seemed to be the norm on published timetables. --Robin (talk) 18:03, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

I didn't know it was abbreviated to just Ironbridge in some railway documents, actually! I'll move it and add an extra redirect from "Iron Bridge and Broseley". --Danny252 (talk) 18:25, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
