  • 1876 Leominster Engineman, Joseph Moreton, was caught taking coal from Hartlebury Lamp Room and fined 2 shillings.[1]
  • 1939 RAF Bridgnorth was ready for occupation.
  • 1965 Both 7802 Bradley Manor and 7812 Erlestoke Manor were recorded as withdrawn from Shrewsbury shed, though there is evidence of 7812 working after that date.
  • 1968 Highley Colliery was completely closed. Coal winding had ended in 1940, but the pithead remained in use for ventilation and personnel access to Alveley Colliery.[2]
  • 1972 Plassermatic Tamper TT65RD moved to the SVR from Wolverhampton.[3][4] Thought to have been last used in the late 1970s, it was broken up at Kidderminster in 1999.[5]
  • 1986 Hydraulic rams were used to move the 2,500 ton concrete Bewdley Bypass Bridge around 150ft into its final position.[6]
  • 1990 BR Well Trolley 901010 arrived on the SVR from Willesden, a unique surviving vehicle.

For 101 years between 1862 and 1963, the Severn Valley Railway formed part of the national railway network, running for 40 miles between Hartlebury and Shrewsbury. Established as a separate company, it was mainly operated by the Great Western Railway (GWRGreat Western Railway) and later by British Railways (BRBritish Rail or British Railways).

The present day Severn Valley Railway (SVRSevern Valley Railway) was established in 1965 to preserve part of the line as a heritage railway. Today it has six stations and two halts and runs for 16 miles along the Severn Valley between Bridgnorth in Shropshire and Kidderminster in Worcestershire, following the course of the River Severn for much of its route. Operations involve a mixture of steam and heritage diesel-hauled services.

This unofficial website is a project aimed to collect information and record events relating to the SVRSevern Valley Railway, both past and present.
