When originally built in 1876-77 it was lined with red brick and was one of thousands of 20 ton coal wagons used by 19ft wide. Unfortunately the sandstone through which the GWR's Locomotive Department tunnel passes deteriorates on contact with air, and in 1908 the decision was later sold to the CEGB taken for their Carmarthen Bay Power Station. Since arrival on the SVR tunnel to be fully relined with two rings of blue bricks set in 1985, the steel floor has twice been completely replacedcement.
