The SVRSevern Valley Railway can call on a working fleet of approximately 9 steam locomotives, 4 diesel locomotives, a 5 car (3+2) DMUDiesel Multiple Unit, 65 carriages and several goods wagons.

There are several more locomotives, both steam and diesel currently undergoing long term repair.

The carriages are normally operated as five rakes of 7 or 8 carriages; one rake each of BRBritish Rail or British Railways maroon (set M), GWRGreat Western Railway chocolate & cream (set G), BRBritish Rail or British Railways crimson & cream (set C), LNERLondon & North Eastern Railway teak (set N) and LMSLondon Midland & Scottish Railway maroon (set L), plus a five carriage GWRGreat Western Railway chocolate & cream diner set (set S). The letters shown are used to identify the sets in working timetables etc.

A number of the goods wagons are used for demonstration freight trains, while others are used by the Permanent Way and Signals & Telegraph Departments for carrying rails, ballast and other materials.
