24068 was purchased for preservation from York by Dr F.G.A Noon, but not before seats, internal doors and many fittings had been removed. It moved to the SVR in 1972, and ownership passed to the LNER (SVR) Coach Fund in 1979. It was returned to traffic with replacement fittings from SVR stock but lack of funds prevented proper restoration. Between 1982 and 1987 it carried its BR number GE10078E, and was withdrawn for an overhaul in 1992. This began in spring of 1997, initially with a cosmetic overhaul as the first vehicle through the SVR’s new paint shop. Following a number of photo charters with the North Norfolk Railway's B12, a full restoration began in October 1999. This was completed in 2000, with the coach now in LNER livery as 24068.
24068 was one of three coaches which in 2010 were gifted by the LNER (SVR) Coach Fund to the SVR Rolling Stock Trust (now the [[Severn Valley Railway Charitable Trust Ltd]]), along with 43600 and 70759. Its next, hopefully relatively minor overhaul is scheduled for winter 2016/7 to commence in June 2017 when it is hoped to improve and re-upholster the seating. Unfortunately the roof is leaking, due it seems to the boards coming loose on the framework. Thus the canvass will have to come off to allow the standard remedial work (see 43600). Its also hoped to replace a few non-teak panels before revarnishing the exterior.
