In 1941 the LMS built two Royal Saloon carriages for King George VI and H.M. Queen Elizabeth (later the Queen Mother), to enable them to travel around the country safely during the Second World War. Queen Elizabeth (later the Queen Mother), to enable them to travel safely around the country during the War. A third Sleeping, Brake and Power Car was also built to support the saloons, containing two double and one single sleeping berths, two lavatories, a generator room and a brake compartment for the storage of luggage, tools and spares.[1]
