History of the Fund

Following the creation of the 'Great Western Rolling Stock Fund' in 1967, the LMSLondon Midland & Scottish Railway and BRBritish Rail or British Railways Coach Fund was established in 1971. The announcement in SVRSevern Valley Railway News stated that the fund had been "...set up to purchase mostly LMSLondon Midland & Scottish Railway, but also BRBritish Rail or British Railways Standard (if deemed necessary) coaches for use on the SVRSevern Valley Railway."[1]

By 1998 the Fund had acquired 4 LMSLondon Midland & Scottish Railway carriages (2300, 7511, 12992 and 24617) and 4 BRBritish Rail or British Railways carriages ( 9220, 16267, 25346 and 25498) for ongoing use.[2] LMSLondon Midland & Scottish Railway Brake Corridor Third 27023 and BRBritish Rail or British Railways Mk 1 Corridor Seconds 24726 and 24396 were also acquired by the Fund but later scrapped and used for spares.[3]

The LMSLondon Midland & Scottish Railway & BRBritish Rail or British Railways Coach Fund donated all its vehicles and merged with the Severn Valley Railway Rolling Stock Trust, now the Severn Valley Railway Charitable Trust, in 2007. It is now a department of the Trust.

Sales Coach

The Fund operates a sales coach in LMS Brake Third Corridor 26921, selling second hand books to raise funds for the coaches it restores and overhauls. It is situated in the cattle dock at Bridgnorth.
