The south portal of Knowlesands Tunnel, looking towards Bridgnorth

This is the shorter of the two tunnels on the SVRSevern Valley Railway, being just over 40 yards long. It is numbered as Bridge 32 and is located between Bridgnorth and Hampton Loade, just north of milepost 149, between Bridgnorth DownIn reference to the direction of travel means away from the major terminus (i.e. towards Bridgnorth on the present day SVR) Distant and DownIn reference to the direction of travel means away from the major terminus (i.e. towards Bridgnorth on the present day SVR) Outer Home signals.

In common with other portions of the original Severn Valley Line it was built to accommodate a double track at a later date, so has much more clearance than other tunnels. Insufficient traffic materialised to justify the widening to a double track. The main B4555 Bridgnorth-Highley road passes over the railway at this location, but the railway is not visible.
