John FowlerHenry Fowler, Chief Mechanical Engineer (CME) of the Midland Railway 1909-1923, and of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway 1923-1933 is credited with the design of Victoria Bridge built between 1859 and 1861 (along with its slightly younger upstream counterpart Albert Edward Bridge built between 1863 and 1864.
He is most notably credited with the design for the steel cantilevered Forth Bridge; a design recommended after the tragic collapse of Sir Thomas Bouch's Tay Bridge in 1879.
