Hannay was a 1988 spin-off from the 1978 film version of John Buchan's novel The Thirty Nine Steps. The Thames Television production starred Robert Powell as Richard Hannay, repeating the role he played in the film, and ran to 13 episodes over 2 series. The SVR rolling stock used was an unlikely combination of GWR 4566 with four LNER coaches.
