9653 later saw DepartmentalRolling stock used for the railway’s own functions (engineering etc.) rather than for general passenger or goods traffic. use as No DW 150032 in the second WR Control Train. It was preserved in 1980 and is part of the National Railway Museum’s National Collection. It first arrived on the SVRSevern Valley Railway from York in 1981 along with sister coach 9654. As of 2017[update] it remains on loan to the SVRSevern Valley Railway, and is regularly used as part of the Severn Valley Limited dining set.
