80990 was built at Swindon in 1910 to Diagram DD3, Lot 633. It is one of 40 cylindrical Gas Liquor Tanks built between 1895 and 1911 and used for the bulk transport of creosote, ammonia, gas oil and lubricating oil. The tanks, which had a capacity of 3108 gallons, were built by the GWR’s Locomotive Department rather than the Wagon Department, as the former had the experience in building large iron barrel shapes.[1]

80990 finished its working life at the Landore Diesel Depot in Swansea, where it carried the Internal User number I/U 070847 and served as a waste oil storage tank. It arrived on the SVR on 22 November 1995.[1] It is owned by The GWR 813 Preservation Fund.
