3650 in service
GWR / BR
3650 was built at Swindon and outshopped in December 1939, as part of lot No 325 at a cost of £2,844, and was allocated to Tyseley.
It started its period of operation under BR ownership in 1948 still based there, before several moves in the 1950s. It was withdrawn from service from Neath Court Sart in September 1963.[1]
Industrial service
In 1963, 3650 was disposed of to Stephenson Clarke Ltd. (P.D.Fuels Ltd.), a private colliery operator at Gwaun-cae-Gurwen in South Wales, where it was painted blue with red lettering along the tanks.
3650 in preservation
3650 was sold to a private owner in October 1969 and after a spell at Hereford, moved to Didcot the following year. Originally 3650 was bought as a source of spares, but it returned to steam in 2008.
3650 at the SVR
3650 arrived in July 2012 on hire. Having been booked with a cover leaking, investigation showed a long-term cracked cylinder block. This was stitched with Metalock, the owners allowing the locomotive to take part in the Autumn Gala in thanks.
