GWRGreat Western Railway 40841 Ballast Wagon

40841 was built by the GWRGreat Western Railway at Swindon in 1893 to Diagram P5, Lot 677. It has a capacity of 8 Tons and was used for transporting ballast and other P.W.Permanent Way material. The chassis is of a type common to many Iron MinkGWR telegraphic code signifying a covered goods van and open wagons, and is iron-framed, pre-dating the introduction of steel chassis wagons in 1895.

40841 later saw service internally as No 068683 at Cardiff Docks, from where it was acquired in 1990, arriving on the SVRSevern Valley Railway in March 1991 for restoration. This involved renewal of much of the platework and replacement of missing running gear, and was completed in 1996.

40841 is owned by The GWR 813 Preservation Fund.
