3802 spent summer 2010 on hire to the SVR. It is a GWR Collett 2884 Class locomotive, designed for heavy freight work and classified 8F by BR, and is a development of the Churchward 2800 class of which of SVR-resident 2857 is a member. The 2884 class has detail differences, such as a side window cab and outside steam pipes as built.

3802 in service

3802 was built in 1938 at the GWR’s Swindon Works.[1] The locomotive was withdrawn from Bristol Barrow Road depot in August 1965 and reached Barry Scrapyard in October.

3802 in preservation

3802 was purchased from Barry in September 1984. It is preserved at the Llangollen Railway.[2]

3802 at the SVR

In Summer 2010 the locomotive fleet was ‘one short’ for the summer peak service, resulting in the hire of 3802 from Llangollen, utilising 7822 'Foxcote Manor's tender to save transport costs.
