The code ‘Fruit A’ originally designated a dual-braked ‘passenger’ fruit van to Diagram Y2, but after 1930 was re-applied instead to ‘goods’ fruit vans. The 200 wagons of Lot 1270 were introduced for the Guernsey tomato traffic which at the time amounted to more than 16,000 tons per year.<ref>[[Bibliography#Other References|Atkins, Beard & Tourret (2013)]] pp. 36, 445.</ref>
The van was awaiting scrapping at Barry in 1970 when purchased by an SVR member. It was initially used as a stores van but later overhauled . A planned cosmetic tidy-up in 1989became an overhaul when inspection revealed that the roof canvas, roof edge planks, all side louvres and several door planks requiredreplacement.<ref>SVR News 92/95</ref> It received a further repaint in 2002<ref>SVR News 139/141</ref> and repairs to the roof canvas in 2008.<ref>SVR News 163</ref>
It is photographed at [[Bewdley]].
