Having had a careful read of Wikipedia's guidance, I have concluded it is acceptable to use individual screenshots from film and TV productions on a 'fair use' basis to allow better understanding and critical discussion and so on, in a similar manner to film posters. The same approach is taken on sites such as ReelStreets.Com (which includes clips from a number of SVRSevern Valley Railway films), whose own terms can be found here.

I have therefore drafted some terms as used in this screenshot. Any thoughts on changes to wording, or indeed on the validity of using these would be welcome.--Robin (talk) 17:36, 3 February 2020 (UTC)

I'm not a lawyer but it looks OK to me with two comments. Firstly "United States copyright law" I'd remove the US bit so it reads "copyright law", and secondly I'd invite the copyright holder to contact if they feel there is any issue.--Patrick Hearn (talk) 12:13, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, I am likewise not a lawyer. Regarding the second point, the first paragraph of "Licensing" includes just such a comment, ie "If the film's title holder does not agree to such use, they should contact the SVRSevern Valley Railway Wiki to have the image removed." I'll make it bold to emphasise the point and it could do with a link under "contact the SVRSevern Valley Railway Wiki" to explain how to do that, which I'll add. Regarding the first point, although the SVRSevern Valley Railway Wiki is not part of Wikipedia, we adhere to the same policies. (Technically the same result could be achieved by uploading a picture to Wikimedia Commons in accordance with Wikipedia's policies and then linking to that instead. However we would never seek to do so in practice, any pictures uploaded to this wiki will of course be removed on request).--Robin (talk) 16:28, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
