Construction progress as of 3 May 2015

The Severn Valley Railway is home to a diverse fleet of heritage diesel railway locomotives, which are used frequently during the summer time to augment the steam engines running along the railway. The depot stands on the space of ground between the Kidderminster Carriage Shed, and the Kidderminster Footbridge. Although visible from the footbridge, across the station throat, the site is not directly visible to SVRSevern Valley Railway visitors until they have boarded a train and are departing towards Bewdley.

A new restoration and storage facility is being constructed on the site of the Depot. This valuable facility will contain three roads, and will have facilities such as a pit, and an overhead crane, which will allow the restoration of these complex but useful locomotives to take place. Facilities up until this point had been in the open air, with volunteers being exposed to the elements.

The Depot is also home to a separate mess room facility for diesel group volunteers, as well as one of the railway's sleeping coaches, which offers overnight accommodation to volunteer staff who are away from home.
