Diesel Depot

The Severn Valley Railway is home to a diverse fleet of heritage diesel railway locomotives, which are used frequently during the summer time to augment the steam engines running along the railway. The depot stands on the space of ground between the Kidderminster Carriage Shed, and the Kidderminster Footbridge. The site is not directly visible to visitors until they have boarded a train and are departing towards Bewdley. The Depot is currently in the process of being excavated ready for a completely new restoration and storage facility to be constructed. This valuable facility will contain two roads, and will have facilities such as a pit, and an overhead crane, which will allow the restoration of these complex but useful locomotives to take place. Facilities up until this point had been in the open air, with volunteers being exposed to the elements. The Depot is also home to a separate mess room facility for diesel group volunteers, as well as the railway's sleeping coach, which offers accommodation to volunteer staff who are away from home.
