Decline and Fall

A 2017 BBC adaption of Evelyn Waugh's comedy novel, first published in 1928, with a cast including Jack Whitehall, Eva Longoria and David Suchet. When Paul Pennyfeather is unfairly expelled from Oxford University, it kick starts a disastrous chain of events that no one could have anticipated.

The location of the school to which Pennyfeather is sent is 'Llanabba' in North Wales. Waugh taught at a school in Llanddulas for two terms in 1925, which features prominently as Llanabba in the book.[1] Llandulas railway station was located in Denbighshire, North Wales, on the London and North Western Railway's North Wales Coast Line between Chester and Holyhead.

Filming on the SVR

Episode 1 includes a short image of GWR Large Prairie 5164 at approximately 09:00 minutes with set L, but nothing to date the footage. The following 'going away' shot towards the viaduct is a totally different locomotive and railway. As 5164 was withdrawn from service in January 2014 and the series shot during 2016, this was archive footage.
