Introduction

A number of charitable bodies support the SVRSevern Valley Railway or individual projects or collections, and which are referred to in this Wiki.

Structures can include a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO), a charitable company or an unincorporated association or trust.[1]

Current charities

As of January 2017 these charities are:

Neither The Warwickshire Industrial Locomotive Trust nor the 1501 Pannier Tank Association own the locomotives for whom they raise funds, which are owned by non-charitable bodies Warwickshire Industrial Locomotive Preservation Group and 15xx Pannier Tank Trust respectively.

The Ironbridge Railway Trust

The Ironbridge Railway Trust was registered as charity no. 1129939 on 2 June 2009. It is independent from the SVRSevern Valley Railway. Its charitable objects include to develop, construct, preserve, operate the railway between Buildwas and Bridgnorth via Ironbridge, connecting to the existing Severn Valley Railway.[3]

Organisations intending to move to charitable status

  • Barry Railway Carriage Trust is "working towards the aim of becoming a Charity and have made several steps towards this goal."[4]
  • The GWR 813 Preservation Fund intends "in due course it [...] will become a charitable trust or other similar organisation in order to safeguard the future of its assets and possibly give access to other sources of income."[5]
