Category:Carriage Type SLE / SLEP
The Sleeper Either class (SLE) and Sleeper Either class with Pantry (SLEP) are versions of the BR Mark 3 sleeping carriage. A total of 208 (118 SLEP, 90 SLE) were built by British Rail Engineering Limited (BREL) at the Derby Carriage and Wagon Works between 1982 and 1984.
The BR Mark 3 rolling stock featured a monocoque construction with all-welded mild steel stressed skin, and was air-braked. These features make it unsuitable for operational use on a heritage railway, but a number of such railways including the SVR have acquired them for use as temporary accommodatoin for staff and volunteers.
