Category:Carriage Type GUV

A General Utility Van (GUV) is a type of rail vehicle built by British Rail and its predecessors, which was primarily used for transporting mail and parcels. GUVs were classified as Non Passenger Carrying Coaching Stock (NPCCS)

Following the introduction of TOPS in the late 1960s, a basic GUV was allocated the TOPS classification NIV, denoting N=Non-passenger carrying stock, I=General Utility Van, V=Vacuum braked only.

Other variants of GUV within the SVR examples are:

NJx: General Utility Van Electric Wired 90mph
NKx: General Utility Van (BRUTE), later GUV 100 mph
NOx: General Utility Van 100 mph ETH wired

86105 was type NKV. 94157 and 94200 began as NJV and were later adapted to NKA (air braked only). 95154 began as NKV and was later adapted to NOx.
