BR Tourist Second Open 5866

BR Mark 2e Tourist Second Open (TSO) 5866 was built at Derby in 1972 to diagram number 108 of lot number 30844. It has 64 seats.[1]

5866 in preservation

After BR service it was purchased by by Eastern Rail Services (ERS) by 2012. It is one of a rake of Mark 2 vehicles operated by ERS and based on the Mid-Norfolk Railway (MNR), where it is used on services. The rake is also from time-to-time hired to other railways, in particular the Weardale Railway for their Polar Express trains.[2][3]

5866 at the SVR

One such hire was in May 2017 to the SVR for the Spring Diesel Festival, its air-braking capability being used by visiting mainline locomotives. 5866 was painted in BR Intercity livery.
