Goods Wagons

200642 is a 29 ton 'Vanfit' goods van. 1400 of these wagons were built by BR between 1969 and 1978 as their first general-purpose air-braked vans, mainly for use on the new Air-Braked Network (later Speedlink) services.[1].

Service and preservation

200642 was built at Shildon in 1974 to Diagram 1/286 (VB003F), Lot 3480. The TOPS code VBA on this particular van signifies that it had an unventilated body with full length doors and fitted with air brakes. This Lot comprised both VBA and VAA (ventilated/full length doors).[2]

200642 arrived on the SVR in September 2018, carrying the livery of former owners EWS. It was intended for use by the P-Way department, following the recent acquisition for that purpose of other air-braked rolling stock including the Rudd, Seacow and Parr wagons.

By June 2023 200642 had spent some time in the No. 2 headshunt at Highley where it was used as as a P-Way department storage vehicle. In June 2023 BR Goods Van 200176 was moved to the headshunt as a second storage vehicle.
