Bogie Bolster / Rail Carrier DB 996730 is one of 95 built for BRBritish Rail or British Railways by Cravens of Sheffield in 1950 to the former GWRGreat Western Railway ‘Gane A’ design, of which the SVRSevern Valley Railway’s 60841 is an example. The 60ft length allowed standard length rails to be carried. It was never vacuum-fitted, which led to an early retirement.
It arrived on the SVRSevern Valley Railway in 1990, and is used by the PWPermanent Way department for carrying rails and sleepers.
