BRBritish Rail or British Railways Mk 1 First Open (FO) No 3103 was built in 1961 at Wolverton to diagram number 73 (AD103), lot number 30648[1] 128 of these vehicles were built 1954-1964, the earliest open to diagram 71 had end doors only, but this diagram had two saloons separated by a cross gangway with centre doors. It was fitted with Commonwealth bogies from new.

Service and preservation

It entered service in 1961 as SC3103 in BRBritish Rail or British Railways's Scottish region, becoming M3103 in the Midland region in February 1964.[1]

Prior to preservation, 3103 had been used as an SAS training vehicle (evidenced by broken table legs and a seat scorched by a stun grenade).[2] It arrived on the SVRSevern Valley RailwaySVRA:Severn Valley Railway AssociationSVRS:Severn Valley Railway Society from Oxley, Wolverhampton on 23 July 1984, and was originally overhauled at Bewdley in 1997, with another overhaul and repaint in 2011 (the tyres were turned at Bristol at the same time).

3103 is painted into 1957 Maroon livery with black ends, and is seen paired with Buffet Restaurant carriage (RB) No 1682 for 'Severn Valley Venturer' catering use and special services. It is owned by the SVR (BR) Buffet Car Fund[3].
