BR 'Dogfish' Ballast Hopper Wagons

The SVRSevern Valley Railway is home to three 24 ton steel Ballast Hopper Wagons, type ‘Dogfish’. Built by Chas Roberts of Wakefield, these were the largest ballast hoppers used by BRBritish Rail or British Railways. They were also the most common, with a total of 1,249 being built. They were fitted with centre and side doors, allowing ballast to be dropped between the rails or to either side.

Preservation

Since arrival, these ballast wagons have been used in Engineers' P-Way trains. The photographs show the wagons in a ballast train at Bewdley in April 2015.
