The SVRSevern Valley Railway has had a fairly accident free history.

Waterworks Crossing

A fatal accident occurred at Waterworks Crossing in January 1994, where a locomotive struck a van negotiating the crossing. An inquest in May recorded a verdict of 'accidental death' with no blame attached to the Railway.

Northwood Crossing

On 25 November 2000 LMS Stanier 8F 48773 was involved in collision with an Astra van on Northwood Crossing, fortunately with no fatalities involved. HM Railway Inspectorate later confirmed that the Railway was not at fault, independent witnesses having testified that the driver had passed the flashing red lights when the train was only a few yards from the crossing.

Hampton Loade derailment

On 28 September 2009, a derailment occurred when the tender of LMS Ivatt Class 4 43106 hauling a down passenger train became derailed as it approached Hampton Loade. There were no injuries. The immediate cause of the accident was the leading right-hand wheel of the tender flange climbing over the rail at the site of a track twist. An incorrect spring had been fitted to this axle of the tender.[1]
