16169 was withdrawn from service by BR at Heaton, Newcastle in 1988, where it had been in use on cross-country services. It arrived on the SVR in August 1989 been purchased by [[Severn Valley Railway (Holdings) PLC | SVR(H)]].<ref name=Stockbook/> It has seen use in the BR Maroon set, but by 2006 was described by the Railway Heritage Register Carriage Survey as "externally very shabby and due for refurbishment". When photographed in July 2015 it was stored in [[Kidderminster Carriage Shed]] awaiting overhaul.
