LMS 12992 Corridor Third

Although the LMS was active in building Open carriages following the appointment of W A (later Sir William) Stanier as CME, they continued to build some Corridor Thirds at the same time. Corridor Third (TK) 12992 was built for BR to Stanier’s design in 1949 by BRC&W at Smethwick, as lot number 1484 to diagram number 2119.

Following service, 12992 was purchased in working order, arriving on the SVR from Plymouth in December 1972. It ran on SVR services until 1984, when it was withdrawn for a full rebuild. It also received a repaint at Kidderminster in 1997.

The former owning group, the ‘LMS & BR Coach Fund’ donated all its vehicles to The SVR Charitable Trust in 2007.

12992 forms part of Set L, the LMS Maroon set in pre-War LMD livery, notwithstanding that it was not built until after nationalisation.
