Summary

This was two steel strips riveted to the tops of the steel section of lower van sides. It was meant to add rigidity and exclude rainwater, but after 70 years it was clearly not doing either and was removed. Its replacement is steel angle seam welded in place, with rain excluder strips welded on top.
